Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
